Kanda 神田

Old merchant Tokyo that survived the century — hand-cut soba halls, the world's largest used-bookshop district, and pre-war wooden facades.

The Character of Kanda

Kanda is one of the few central Tokyo districts that still reads as pre-war. It was the city's merchant and student quarter, and the texture survives: 140-year soba halls, the Jimbocho used-bookshop district (the largest on earth), tool and instrument streets, and the Kanda Myojin shrine presiding over it all. It rewards slow walking more than a destination list.
